64 Box: Just after noon today Company 64 was dispatched to the intersection of State Route 225 and Urban Road in Mandata for a reported brush fire. Upon arrival it was discovered that the fire was quickly spreading up the steep, rocky mountain head. Multiple companies worked on the scene for nearly six hours, including Forestry units from PA DCNR and the Rehab Unit from the Kratzerville Fire Company. In addition, we thank the good folks at Meckley’s Limestone Products for the use of their bulldozers to create a trail for apparatus to attack the fire from the top of the mountain, the many fire companies that handled transfer & standby duties, and most of all to the members of the community that provided refreshments for those working the fire. As dry conditions persist across our area we cannot stress enough – PLEASE DO NOT BURN. That’s little controlled fire can turn into something disastrous very quickly!
Stations on scene: Hickory Corners (64), Lower Mahanoy (62), Herndon (63), Klingerstown (65), Lower Augusta (7-1), Trevorton (300), Pillow (Dauphin 28), Berrysburg (Dauphin 26), Pitman (Schuylkill 10), Sacramento (Schuylkill 14), Americus Ambulance.
